About Dr. Tavel
Someone who does not need the culture explained.
Dr. Javaris Tavel is a clinical psychologist and an Army veteran. Eight years in. He has sat on both sides of the desk, and he built this for the man he used to be.
His own homecoming did not take the first time. His ex wife put it plainly once. She said she was living with a stranger who looked like him.
He has said it more plainly than that since. He brought his body home and left the rest somewhere over there. For a long stretch he did what a lot of guys do. He functioned. He white knuckled it. He told himself the same thing you tell yourself, that other men had it worse and he had no business struggling.
He went and got the training, the license, the letters after his name. And he still watched better men than him give up in a waiting room, handed the hardest work first, on no sleep, in the wrong order, and then told the problem was them.
So he built the thing he needed at 3am and could not find. That is the whole origin. No hero pose, no war stories traded for trust. Just a man who went through it, learned the order it actually has to go in, and decided to stop watching other guys go without it.
"I brought my body home and left the rest somewhere over there."
He is not asking you to take a leap of faith on a stranger. He is asking you to spend 20 minutes on the phone with a guy who has been where you are and knows the way the work has to be sequenced. If it is a fit, you start. If it is not, he points you somewhere that is.
